Niagara Falls and Fort George

Posted by admin On July - 22 - 2008

Today the weather was good in the morning so Mark and I went to the Niagara Falls. On the way there we stoped at Fort George and I learned a bit about canadian history.

“Fort George National Historic Site is a historic military structure at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, that was the scene of several battles during the War of 1812. The fort consists of  earthworks and palisades, along with internal structures, including an officer’s quarters, blockhouses to accommodate other ranks and their families, and a stone powder magazine, which is the only original building on the site. Opposite the fort, across the Niagara River, stands Fort Niagara in New York, which can be seen from Fort George’s ramparts.
Fort George was built by the British Army after Jay’s Treaty (1796) required Britain to withdraw from Fort Niagara. The new fort was completed in 1802 and became the headquarters for the British Army and the local militia.
Fort George was captured by U.S. forces in May 1813 at the Battle of Fort George. The American Army used the fort as a base to invade Upper Canada, but were repelled at the Battles of Stoney Creek and Beaver Dams. The fort was recaptured by the British Army in December.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_George,_Ontario)

Back to Bangkok

Posted by admin On March - 10 - 2007

The trip from Cambodia made me very exhausted and back in Bangkok I took a cab to the Dream Hotel as Andy told me. The place he was staying right now and where we are going to meet. Its situated in the heart of Sukhumvit in Bangkok and its a true 5 – Star hotel. When I arrived the friendly stuff already know and I was expected. The room was georgous. Really beautiful and the first thing I did was a nice hot shower to be clean again. Later I met Andy and we had our welcome drink at the hotel bar. Read the rest of this entry »

Crossing the border from Laos to Cambodia

Posted by admin On March - 5 - 2007

We left Don Det at the 4000 islands at 8:00am. Then we took a horrible bus for too many people to the border in the woods. Had to pay an extra dollar for the customs. Next minivan brought us to from the border to a ferry and after that we changed again. That bus broke on the way. And not even that, we also drove over a pig!!! The driver didn’t care he drove like hell. The pig was dead. Lucky that we made it after 13hours halfway to Siem Riep. We slept in the most disgusting place ever with ants and cockroaches in Kompong Cham. Read the rest of this entry »

Dolphins and “Fullmoon party”

Posted by admin On March - 3 - 2007

Today Jenny and me changed early in the morning the accommodation for a cheaper and better one. Then we caught up with the German Arno and the two other Finn guys for doing a little bike tour around the islands to the waterfall and a beach on Don Khong. From the beach we did a tour to watch the rare Hirrawadie dolphins. And we saw some but unfortunately far away. In the evening we all went for 50000kip to a sort of fullmoon party with food. Was a big rip off. Food didn’t taste good. In the end the lady who organized the party had a loud argument with a Laos guy. Read the rest of this entry »
