Finding the waterfall…

Posted by Susanna On January - 28 - 2011

My last day in the jungle. I decided to look for the waterfall again. Giving it a second chance. So I hiked up again for hours. Enjoying the beauty of pristine unspoiled rain forest with all it amazing creature. Finally I came to the river again and this time I followed the river which was quite difficult with my equipment. Then there it was – the waterfall. A real jungle waterfall. Crystal clear and refreshing. I had a dip with my feet then I made my way back so I would arrive before darkness at the lodge.

Costa Rica Jungle

Posted by Susanna On January - 23 - 2011

Like one of my friends Greg said there is a kind of simple lodge in the jungle on the border to Corcovado National park. I and him and two other new friends went there today to check it out. It is difficult to reach since you normally first take a bus then wait (sometimes for hours) for a pickup van and then you hike up to the lodge for about 30min. So I took only a few things and my camera equipment with me. The hike was tiring but the jungle amazing. Blue morpho butterflies and various birds and macaws flew around. After choosing our beds we decided to hike to the view point where we had a great view over the forest up to the sea.

Coron Island

Posted by admin On October - 11 - 2009

For me the most amazing place in the Philippines are the Palawan Islands. I stayed in Coron town and the people are simply lovely. The town is small and quite and I picked a typical Filipino house on stilts to stay – the Crystal Lodge. You really sleep in one of the houses over the water what has it typical charm… I loved it.
The family was great and one day I bought a tuna to do Sashimi and I had so much that I could share. The family invited me and gave me some mangrove crab instead and we laughed a lot… Will always remember that night.
Another day I shared a boat cruise with two french travelers I met. The cruise was around Coron Island and to the Kayangan Lake. we had several stops and in between it even started raining. Since I was already spoiled with Palau no much could impress me anymore in the Philippines. Then I saw the view of the top of the hill on the hike to Kayangan Lake and I have to admit  – it is amazing. This was worth climbing up. It put me a little off that even after paying the boat trip you had to pay for each spot they brought you and you get off the boat extra. Always keep that in mind. The lake was the most expensive place but the most worth it as well. Some of the spots are just nothing special. Just other beaches. I prefer then rather to stay longer at one beach than cruising to several ones and having not enough time to enjoy.

The Grouse Mountain hike

Posted by admin On August - 25 - 2008

My friends Chelisse and Jerone and I went today to Grouse mountain to hike up the top for the best view over Vancouver on my last day here. It was a beautiful last day. The sun was shining no rain at all. It actually took us 3 hours to climb the top because we decides for the longer walk but it was worth it. Read the rest of this entry »

Walk the island…

Posted by admin On July - 23 - 2006

After Zoe, Aaron, Mark, Rosie and the girls left the island it felt more quiet than ever before. Not many people from the original crowd were left. Nathan, Simon, Simone and I decided to walk around the island. It took us about 3 1/2 hours for walking first to the millenium bure, then more further and after the mangroves down to the beach through the jungle. I arrived first at the beach and went straight into the water. Had done a vision my camera felt down into the water so I went back to the beach to save it. On this way back it happened, the camera dipped into the water. But it was not destroyed, just could not work properly anymore. What a shock! No photos anymore. Hopefully the others send me as much photos back… In the evening was beach party and I saw the first time in my life shooting stars. And about seven! That was very good after the stupid camera accident.
