Photos analog

This wednesday should be the day were I learn new skills. How to use special cameras with filmrolls, not the progressivest form of photographing but still existing and thats why a must for assistants. We drove to Hamilton to a new builded and not opened yet Woolworths supermarket. The claim of the new ad was “We bringing the super back to supermarket” and should show people who are real employees in the Woolworths. They all have their aprons backwards like a superman cape. The Woolworths heroes. It was quite funny and I tryed my best withe the films. In fact for the photographer I was to slow with the rolls. Never mind. Today was just a portrait shot of all of them, tomorrow the superman shot.

“Heavenly Creatures”

Posted by admin On May - 9 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Lecture this thursday is about the movie “Heavenly Creatures” of Peter Jackson (remember he is the director of “Lord of the Rings”). It´s about a true case in the year 1954 in Wellington / New Zealand.

“A starkly original film-going experience based on a true-life story, this film from New Zealand director Peter Jackson (Braindead, The Frighteners) is a stirring drama that offers up the unexpected. The story concerns two girls, outcasts who become best friends, whose bizarre fantasy life becomes more intense as their bond becomes increasingly more obsessive. When the mother of one of the girls tries to intervene and split the girls apart, they kill her and stand trial for murder in what is still to this day a celebrated and controversial case. Kate Winslet (Titanic) and Melanie Lynskey create two sympathetic and yet uncomfortably eerie characters, in riveting portrayals. Featuring some startling and unique moments of visual brilliance as well as a disturbing love story between the two girls, Heavenly Creatures is at once both unsettling and beautiful to behold.” (Robert Lane)

Horror night

Posted by admin On May - 7 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Mandy was inviting for a horror night and a bbq tonight. Russell picked me up from home and for me it was the first time visiting Mandy. She got a nice house which she shares with two flatmates – Sam and Mel. And the best is, it is not far from my flat. She cooked delicious and later on came somemore friends and James her boyfriend. Another James which she knows from work (movies) told me he got a book with recipes for bloodmaking. You can buy everything you need for the diffrent looking types of blood in the supermarket. I think thats very usefull maybe later on for the funny photos. The movie we saw was an old one from Stephen King “It” what I had actually known before but was got fun to see again. Was a really nice evening.

How to become a soldier

Posted by admin On May - 6 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

After the funny bottle shooting (you can see some result photos at the entry of 03 of May 2006) I got the brilliant idea doing more funny bottle shoots because after the weekend these bottles are still at the studio of Russell. So I had asked him and we were thinking about funny themes for it. Finally we found my camouflage dress what fits me perfect and an idea was born. So after meeting for breakfast on Saturday morning we went to a costume shop and I bought a kind of machine -gun and a full metal jacket. Back in Russell’s studio we create a fitting cool atmosphere. Brown background and I worn my dress, the full metal jacket. Took the gun in one hand in the other the bottle of Tequila the only thing I could rescue in war. Later on some oil with water drops on skin for sweat and ready was the perfect soldier. Russell made wonderful pictures. Normally I don’t like pictures of me but they look good also think about I’m not a professional model. Later on I did pictures of Russell as soldier. We had so much fun. Maybe will do some different ones soon.

Seven Laughs Sake

Posted by admin On May - 5 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

After starting my work on the 2000 words essay for university in the evening I met Russell, Mandy and James at a nice sake bar (www.sakebars.co.nz) in the city. We waited 10min for a table but finally we got a good one with view over the whole restaurant. Each sake here got a diffrent funny name so we ordered “Seven Laughs” sake and it was funny.

But later on after Seven Laughs there was no bottle save anymore… I guess we are all a bit bottle addicted…

Meeting Steve McCurry

Posted by Susanna On May - 4 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Do you remember the famous picture what went around the world once? I knew it from early National Geographic Issues. In Auckland at the end of the world I got the opportunity to meet the famous photographer Steve McCurry. He hosted a lecture in the Art Gallery and I got the chance to go. Russel got two tickets and asked me for coming. I myself tried for two weeks to get tickets – in vain. After he was talking about fascinating adventures he experienced around the globe it was possible to let sign books by him. I actually bought two books, one for me and one for Scott. Strange that they offered a big book signing but excuses later there had only a few books left. So you can’t imagine how quick I was at the little bookshelf buying two of the last four or five books (Only Sanctuary the book about the temples of Angkor in Cambodia). Then I was waiting in the line for letting Steve McCurry sign my books and asking him after a few pictures of the two of us, especially for my blog. He seriously is my biggest inspiration. We had a quick chat where I’m coming from and that he stayed in Berlin in 1989 when the wall came down and all that stuff. Later at home while looking in my signed books I realized that he dated the signings with May 4th 2004.

Tool time

Posted by admin On May - 4 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Near the place where I live today I had a shooting with Scott. It was for “Living & Giving” again and was located in the nice old villa of Brenda, the woman of Brando the advertisement company. The model arrived too late and so they wanted me to wear a special belt with heaps of funny flowered garden tools. Finally you will not see my head but I was surprised how well done the photos looked like. Later on we shot dishes on a table. You can’t imagine how difficult it sometimes could be to find the right angle for bowls, spoons, glasses, bread and soup. The following impressions I did for giving you a little impression.

Who shot the bottles?

Posted by admin On May - 3 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

After working on Monday and university on Tuesday (holidays are actually over) I thought I could sleep longer this morning but around 8:00am! I got a TXT message from Russel (www.russellmeek.com) asking for helping him assisting while shooting heaps of bottles full of alcohol. So I tryed to be as fast as possible but took the wrong way to his studio and had to walk at least 1 hour. Belive me – that was exhausting. We had a fun day Russel, the custumer girl, Mandy (friend of Russel) and me. Learned how to set up light for indoors and product shots witch made on special reflecting material like glas and metallic.
