Temple and Rip-Off

Posted by admin On January - 26 - 2007

So this is my first day in Bangkok and my first day in Asia anyway. I decided to visit some of the numerous temple and Buddhas. Later on the other German I met and I went to a governmental travel agency (T.A.T.) – big mistake! Its the first time when I became so conscious about the “two faces of the Thai”. I had a really nice and friendly girl offering me good advice. So I booked way to expensive 10 days on Ko Phagnan (cost 8500baht; around 1000baht are 21Euro). But I had no idea, it was my first time in Thailand and I just wanted to have my little bungalow with beach front waiting for me. If I had known by then what was awaiting me… I booked as well a halfday trip to the floating markets for 600baht, first she wanted 700baht. Of course she cheated me another time. I can just tell you I learned my lesson.

Feeding dolphins and watching dugongs

Posted by admin On December - 9 - 2006

In Denham I shared a room with Kim from Holland. We came along quite well and so we decided to go together today to Monkey Mia for feeding the wild dolphins. Monkey Mia is famous for its dolphins who come every morning for picking up some fish. I insisted to feed them and meanwhile Kim did the photo of me feeding the dolphins. After that we did a catamaran tour for 2 hours for seeing the rare dugong. Oh that tour was beautiful even it was a little chilly sometimes. As well we met Duncan and Dominic. They were british and had bought a van so after the catamaran trip we joined them on their drive to “Eagles Bluff” a nature reserve for watching the sharks from above.

Search for the new chief of Vuna village

Posted by admin On October - 25 - 2006

Being chief of a Fijian village is a job of a lifetime. After being elected by the chief family the chief can do whatever he wants until he dies – in good or bad ways. When he dies people mourn for 100 days. In that time of grifing they will not go fishing but they will knot a new fishing net what will be inaugurated the first day after the 100 days of mourning. The complete chief family arrives from all Fijian families for that festivities. I was invited as well of Archie who works at Susie’s plantation (where I stay at the time) and his father who belong to the chief family. We used the first time the new net and got all kinds of fish. After that we had food and cake and kava. I am glad I could experience this since its very unique.
